One of the most exciting and elegant designs we’ve seen this year is the Spyderco Drunken. Designed by Dmitry Sinkevich for his first Spyderco collaboration, the Drunken has a ton of subtle design touches that elevate this from “pretty knife” to a thing of beauty. There’s unbelievably extensive machining throughout the knife, both inside and out, and elegant matte finished accents. Combine all that aesthetic beauty with a high-quality build, a supremely long and thin slicing edge, and we can see why the Drunken falls into the high-end knives price range. The first thing you notice about the Drunken when you hold it are the handles. Nested inside the carbon fiber front handle is a full stainless-steel liner which adds a bit of heft to the knife and keeps the bronze phosphorus washers in the pivot from rubbing. The carbon fiber has an intricately webbed texture which is mirrored on the titanium back handle. All the 90-degree edges have a smooth finish with zero harsh or sharp edges. The easily recognizable Sinkevich-type pivot is anodized matte blue, as is the titanium back spacer and the tip-up pocket clip. Rather than being a flashy splash of color, they have a luminous glow that is simply gorgeous. The amount of detailed attention to all the small niceties in this knife results in an amazing feel in the hand and a perfect fit and finish. The Drunken has a 3.45” S90V sheepsfoot blade with a tumbled finish. It has a blade thickness of 0.138”, so it’s a beefy blade, but it has a full-flat grind down to a remarkably thin slicing edge.  It opens with Spyderco’s Trademark Round Hole and the opening is smooth and easy. Once open, it locks with a Reeve Integral Lock (R.I.L.) with a stainless-steel lockbar insert.
